We're so impressed with the capability of new generation HTPC's we've setup a reference system based on a combination of a Pioneer 50" hi definition Plasma, Pro Ac response 1 reference stereo and centre speakers, MK Tri-pole rear speakers, Naim NAP 500 stereo Power Amp and Meridian multi-channel Amp, Chord Electronics DAC64, Pioneer DV-757A DVD player, TAGMclaren AV30R decoder and Tom Evans 'The Vibe' pre amplifier, all cabled up with Chord Reference signal and speaker cable (a £60K+ combination of Hi-Fi and home cinema).
The revealing quality of a high end setup like this shows no mercy to a system that has even slight flaws or unwanted interference noise, normally hidden by lower end systems. The reproduction and recording quality of the HTPC absolutely blew us away as a single combination appliance the HTPC is undoubtedly the way to go and represents fantastic value for money.
